What we’ve built is a platform for companies and issuers to raise money for their businesses, sell a stake in their assets, projects or campaigns and make it easy for everyday individuals, team members, customers, friends, angel and institutional investors, cooperatives and more to buy and trade shares in these assets easily and securely. This means that if you are the proud owner of equity shares in a company, or an artwork collection or the developer of a real estate project, you can offer it on Assetbase to everyone who wants to invest and co-own it with you, and they can buy shares in your asset instantly and benefit from the proceeds. And if you are an individual in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya or South Africa and you’d like to invest in a business or franchise in the United States, a real estate project or property abroad or at home, an art work in London or your favorite charitable project, you can search for them and invest in them through Assetbase.
If you’re asking how we are different from other crowdfunding or exchange platforms out there, we thought you’d never ask.
First, we are set up across multiple jurisdictions and we have advisory and broker-dealer partnerships that allow us to register our offerings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. This means that not only are our offerings regulatorily compliant, but it also means that we can list offerings from anywhere in the world, and accept investors globally. And no matter where you invest from, you have legally enforceable ownership and full economic rights over what you invest in, on Assetbase.
Secondly. we do a lot of vetting and curation so that the offerings you see on Assetbase are selected for quality, validity, safety and returns potential. We aim to give a similar level of underwriting and quality checks as the best exchanges in the world can.
Thirdly, working with institutional liquidity partners and an internal, proprietary trading infrastructure, we will make it possible to trade your shares in any projects to third parties and cash out your stake in any asset on Assetbase just like you would on a stock exchange. The ability to sell your shares fast and securely is an additional benefit of Assetbase.
Our mission at Assetbase is simple. Across emerging markets, only a small percentage of assets in the economy are available in a publicly available exchange. Where exchanges in developed markets have assets of 50, 60, sometimes up to 90% of their country’s GDP, in emerging markets the value of assets on exchanges tend to hover around 7, 8, 10 or 12% of their country’s GDP. This means that a HUGE portion of emerging market investors are locked out of the wealth created around them by companies and projects they are familiar with and are customers of. And for issuers, this also means that they do not have access to the long term capital, customer loyalty, financial access that comes from being able to raise from their best supporters or from retail investors.
Assetbase aims to unlock the vast amount of private assets and private investments available across emerging and developed markets and make it easier and faster for investors to participate and profit from these opportunities and for issuers, entrepreneurs and owners to raise capital and create liquidity for their businesses, assets and projects.
